An unseasonal LO...Christmas at Berko!!

Hi everyone...its beautifully sunny here and so hot you could fry eggs on the pavement...so i thought i'd scrap a very unseasonal photo and immerse myself in cooler times. ;0)

I only allowed myself to use papers and cardstock from my scraps pile...and i even created the background pp with a scrap, some Versamark ink, a few mica powders and my hand carved damask stamp...did you spot it?
{To see the LO more clearly just click on it and it will pop up big enough for you to see all the details :0) }

The embellishments all came from the tray on my desk where I keep leftovers from other projects.  The paper flowers are both dipped into UTEE after being coated in Brilliance ink, and the wire flower is held in place by a cute brad that was also in my tray.

I stamped the journalling block using an ancient stamp and rounded the corners to match the tag i've used (upside down) on the top left.

Its another case of, not feeling great so throw it all at the page and see what happens...but i'm quite liking how it came out! :0)  And how can you fail to love the cheeky look on my BIL's face!!

I do hope you are managing to keep cool...and not get burned...but taking the opportunity to have an ice~cream or two!

i'm using a 6x12 album for my BOM...and this is one of the first pages i've done for it in yonks...maybe even a year or so...do you have projects that seem to take you your whole life to complete?   its not even as if i'm not enjoying doing it...i just seem to have so many other things i want to do too!!

a very Merry Christmas LO...

a little light~hearted scrapping today...and a LO that took hardly any time or supplies...but that makes me smile when i look at it!

the pp are so pretty that i didn't feel it needed much more, so i simply die~cut an extra bauble onto which i did my journalling and added it with foam above Will's picture...to let you know that these pics were actually taken at 11am in the morning!!

i doodled frames around each of the photos and the Merry Christmas title to make them *co~ordinate* and added a little glitter to the bauble at the bottom.

is it too minimal do you think?

caption competition! :)

a little bit of fun for the week ahead...and a fun prize too :)

firstly a LO...this week i've been trying to finally scrap the photos from my hen~do...my lovely sister took it upon herself to organize a fun hippy themed fancy dress party for me which was a hoot...although i think i might have been the most enthusiastic about the dressing up part!! lol

i've used a sketch for this photo of me {a rarity in that i actually like this photo of me} and its from the fabulous Pencillines sketch site...check it out here. The sketch is actually for their design team search...and i haven't applied...but i liked the sketch so i've used it anyway!

with the hippy theme, it was important to include a serious amount of flower power on the page...and i really like to mix and match styles so...i've included printed flowers with brads for middles...

i also created my own hippy daisies by die cutting some orange leather i had from a sofa swatch and filling the middles with enamel accents and micro beads...and drawing on some simple stems with a white pen...

and i finished my trio of different floral embellishments with a layered flower created from a felt shape overlayed with a fabric on and a cordroy brad...i love how all the flowers work together...and i hope you do too!
now...on to the fun caption competition...one of the reasons i've struggled so much to scrap this event is because everytime i get the photos out...i get the giggles and get lost in the memories of this fun evening...there are so many funny/silly/amusing photos but i've chosen this one for you all to write an amusing caption to:

please leave your caption and your details in the comments to this post...and next week i will pick a winner who will get a prize {related to what is actually happening in this photo!}
so...i leave you to ponder and amuse yourselves with thinking of a caption that sums up what might be happening here?? you don't have to get the answer right...i'll pick the one that makes me and his Nibs giggle the most!
enjoy...but keep it clean please!! ;)

Embracing Imperfection!!

hi all,

did you know that there is currently a free class running over at Big Picture Classes...all about Embracing Imperfection and getting busy at the scrapping table..? you can join in by clicking here

the course is basically a 2 weeklong lesson in how we spend too much time and energy fretting and worrying about creating perfect pages to go in our albums...and not enough time simply putting our thoughts and our photos onto the paper and into our albums. sound familiar, huh?

i have wholeheartedly embraced this notion for the LO i'm showing you now...for well over a year {maybe more than one...but who's counting, right?} this LO has sat half completed in my WIP {work in progress} pile...and the reason...well...even tho it wasn't finished, i knew it wasn't perfect so i lost interest. but doh! i love this photo...i love the memories that flood back when i look at it...and so what if the tone of green isn't perfect with the tone of the purple...when i look at it...and when i showed it to my sister...we both felt transported back to that very moment. that is exactly what scrapping is for, right? so i've embraced this LO, imperfections and all and now its done...i actually love it!! :)

to emphasise that i encourage you to take this approach to your LO's too...i'm even going to point out the imperfections that were holding me back...

firstly...the photo was small and blurry...and when i enlarged it...it was even more blurry...so there you go...imperfect photo...but its all i have of that memory...and its important to me...so who cares!

secondly...i matted the photo by electric light {not daylight} and in the morning i didn't like the tone of the green with the purples i'd used...imperfect colour~matching...a designer no~no...but not really a show stopper in my personal albums :) i'll just learn to live with it!

thirdly, and this one might be a total no~no for some of you...but the LO has sat in the pile for so long and been shuffled so many times that the border had gotten torn...normally i'd scrap it and start the whole border again...but i decided to hell with it...it barely notices in the scheme of things {my sister didn't notice when i showed her the page...she was just happy wallowing in the memory}...so i've embraced that imperfection too!

i can't say i think its the greatest page i've ever created...or that its the one i'm most proud of technically...or stylistically...but i'm really glad to have it in the album and out of the the WIP pile...and i feel sort of liberated about getting it done...and moving on to the next thing. that is a good feeling :)

so go on...see if you can spend a little less time fretting and a little more time achieving! see you in the classroom!

a little bit of philosophy....

...and you don't get that here very often ;0)
as someone who has studied a fair bit of psychology and psychotherapy...i can't resist an opportunity to add a little Carl Rodgers quote to a project:

this is the part of the january prompt for ali's one little word class...my word for the year is grow, and this quote speaks to me of the need to accept who i am now, in order to allow myself to grow into the future

the complete page is here:

it centres around a definition of the word grow...created from a mixture of rub on letters and handwriting...

...for the eagle~eyed amongst you...if you're wondering why i haven't shown you the left hand side of this spread...that is because its a photo based page...and i'm still waiting for ink for my printer...so i can't add the photo until it arrives!!

just for fun...and as a chance to wish all you wednesday people a very happy new year...here is my dreadfully chaotic desk...and a glimpse at my shelf...which you'll see also needs a serious tidy!!

thanks for stopping by...and do pop over to julia's place to say hi to her...and to all the other wednesday folk!

One Little Word for 2011...

to kick off my scrapping year, i've joined ali edwards' class over at big picture classes called *one little word*...if you fancy joining in...you can find all the details here :0)

the basic premise is to pick a word to think about and ruminate on during the year...seeing where it takes you personally and creatively...my word is grow...and i have high hopes for a ton of personal growth/development as well as creative growth over the coming year.

the word grow instinctively makes me think of plant and animal life, developing before your very eyes...which is why i chose to highlight my word with a bright and hopeful looking flower...to emphasis my hopes...

the flower head is pre~made {prima} but i've created the stem with some ribbon trim and a fine tip glue...topped off with a cute bow made from the remainder of the length of ribbon used to underline my title
***hint***
repeating the use of the same ribbon in two different ways gives extra emphasis and allows you to use up the full length! i love repetition in design, its a slick way to add weight to an idea and creates a comfortable familiarity on a page too :0)
so there it is...the first LO of the year...and not a photo in sight!! lol

a little bit of cyber cropping...

i've not been up to much scrapping for the longest while now...so i thought i'd have a go at a couple of the classes in this weekend's Christmas scrappy cyber crop over on UKS....

this first class was by Angie:

...who could resist this super cute photo????

...or the chance of a political pun?

...not to mention the chance to use my new Martha Stewart border punch...it looks so pretty triple embossed :0)

This second class was by Linda...

...a good way to use up some of those mismatched letter stickers i have lurking around...and yes...i am truly cross~eyed in this photo!!! lol

if you fancy having a go at these...or any of the other classes or challenges on offer...pop over here!
